siblings project november

The siblings project – November 2017

There is a slight difference between this month’s siblings photos and October’s photos.

Just a month ago we were at the beach without coats, and I wrote in my siblings post about how lovely and warm it was when we went out to take our photos.

November’s photos were taken last weekend and oh my word it was chilly out!

Not that the children seemed to notice though.  Or if they did notice it didn’t bother them.  They were perfectly happy running around having fun, and then sitting for a few minutes so I could get some photos of them together.

I was more than happy with the photos of them sitting down together.  I think I took about 20 others of them in that spot that I could happily have shared in this post!

But then they went and stood together leaning on the railings and I just had to seize the moment and grab a few more photos.

I am so pleased that I started this project back in January, and that I’ve managed to stick with it up to this point.  I take a lot of photos of Rhys and Nerys but I’m not sure I would have all that many of them both together if I wasn’t pushed to do it every month.

It’s something that I’m definitely planning on continuing next year too.

I love having this little photographic record of them and their relationship each month.  What’s so funny is that month to month I don’t think they’ve really changed all that much, but then I look back at January’s siblings post and they do both look so much younger.

It’s the same with their relationship.  Month to month it doesn’t seem to change much, but then I look back at how they were at the start of the year and can see that actually things have shifted a bit.

As they both get older they can play together in a slightly different way.  Nerys is old enough now to ‘get’ some more of the games that Rhys wants to play.  He was teaching her to do ‘rock, paper, scissors’ the other day on the way to school and it was just so nice to hear them giggling away together while playing.

I quite often wake up in the mornings to the sound of them talking and giggling together in their bedroom, and go in to find them both in Nerys’ bed with a pile of toys around them that they’ve been playing with together.

I hope as they get older they realise how lucky they are to have each other.

‘Show you were there’ round up

It’s Sunday, which can only mean one thing around here – time for another round up from my lovely little Instagram community #ShowYouWereThere.

In case you’ve not heard about it before, #ShowYouWereThere is all about getting more parents in more photos.  So any photos that feature you, or your partner, in some way, shape or form then just tag them with #ShowYouWereThere when you share them on Instagram to join in, and potentially be featured in one of these little round ups!

Now, on to my four favourite photos that were shared in the last week.

My first pick is from Lucy at Mrs H’s Favourite Things.  It’s such a sweet mother/daughter photo, but more than that, I really admire Lucy’s openness and honesty in her captions.  CBT is something I’ve been looking in to, as I think it might help with my anxiety, so it’s really good to know that Lucy is finding it helpful.

My next pick for this week is from Alex at That Butterfly Effect.

Well done to her son, this is such a gorgeous photo, and I love how Alex wrote in her caption that when she looks at it what really shines through for her is happiness, because that’s what I see too.  I love photos where there’s a real connection between the person in front of the camera and the person behind it!

Slight change in pace with my third pick for this week!  This photo from Elaine at Entertaining Elliot just really made me laugh.  I think we’ve all been there haven’t we, trying to get a ‘nice’ photo with our children!

My final choice this week is from Wendy at Naptime Natter.

What can I say, I really can’t resist a photo of a baby-wearing mama!

Thank you so much to everyone who is using #ShowYouWereThere, I love seeing your photos popping up over on instagram, they always bring a huge smile to my face!

Now, my turn.

Nerys and I went out for a quick trip to Cwmdonkin Park yesterday, and ended up staying and playing for nearly 3 hours.  She pushed her Elsa doll on the swings, went on zip wire and whizzed down the big slide.  We went to the little cafe and ate welsh cakes and brownies.  We played hide and seek in the play park that has very few good places to hide in it.  And we took photos.

So often I get too nervous and self-conscious to take these kinds of photos, using the timer function on the camera to run into the frame.  But I’m so pleased I got over it and grabbed this picture yesterday!

If you’d like to join in with my little community and possibly be featured in my next round up (with a nice link back to your blog!) then just share a photo of yourself over on instagram using #ShowYouWereThere.  It’s all about getting more parents in more photos.  And if you’d like to take part in my guest post series ‘The photo I’m thankful for‘ then take a look at this post or email me at thisgloriouslife@gmail.com for more information.

Me and mine – October 2017

Considering the fact that I’ve been counting down these last few weeks, waiting for half term to arrive, the end of the month still sort of caught me by surprise!

I really wanted to get out to the beach or the park to take some nice family photos for October’s me and mine project.  But the children had a sleepover at their grandparents’ house at the weekend and the weather wasn’t really cooperating in the morning before they left.

So we set up the tripod in the kitchen and just took some photos there instead.  And even though I moaned a bit at first that they just weren’t what I wanted, the end results actually really make me happy.

I like the top photo.  The ‘proper’ photo of all of us doing what we should be doing, looking at the camera, smiling nicely.

But I love the others.

I’m so happy that I bought my little remote trigger for the camera.  It means that I can keep snapping away and capture these sort of in-between moments.  They show so much more of ‘us’ than the posed photo does.

Living Arrows 2017 – 44/52

We made it.  After 8 long weeks we made it to half term in one piece.

Now to enjoy a week away from the routine of multiple school runs every day.  I’m not sure who is happier about that, the children or me!

We didn’t really get out and about much last week, so my photo choices for this week’s living arrows post were limited to ones I’d taken of the children playing in the house.  Luckily I managed to get some that I absolutely love of Nerys a few days ago.

living arrows

She was given this Elsa dress last Christmas, and honestly hasn’t worn it that much up until now.  But all of a sudden she’s been asking to wear it pretty much every day, including on the school run in the afternoons to pick up Rhys.

I think she’s made so many people smile this past week, rushing through the crowds outside the classrooms in her pretty blue dress.

She’s definitely made me smile, in an oh-my-word-I-love-this-child-so-much kind of way.  She’s been watching video clips of ‘let it go’ on the ipad, and acting along with it.  Pulling her gloves off when Elsa does, taking off her ‘crown’ and throwing it dramatically across the room.

And singing along as best she can.

My favourite part is when she gets to the line ‘I’m never going back, the past is in the past’.  Her version is so much better – ‘I’m never going back, the plaster’s in my hair’.

Genius.

Now, on to my four favourite photos that were shared in the last week.

First up is this lovely family beach photo from Nikki at Tinker and Totsy.  Sounds like her family had a great start to their half term last weekend!

Next up is this blustery picture from Suzy at Our Bucket List Lives.  I love that she managed to get this fab photo while almost being blown away!

My third pick for this week is Jaymee at The Mum Diaries.  I just really love this family photo, I honestly believe that you don’t always have to be looking at the camera and smiling for photos!

My fourth and final photo for this week comes from Sabrina at The Mummy Stylist.  I love how bright and colourful this photo is, and it makes me want to go out and get some fleecy pjs for myself!

Thank you so much to everyone who is using #ShowYouWereThere, I love seeing your photos popping up over on instagram, they always bring a huge smile to my face!

Now, my turn.

I’m so pleased, I’ve managed to stick to my pledge again and had a few photos taken of me this past week.  We were all in our kitchen with the camera set up to take some family photos for October’s Me and Mine post, and I asked Steve to take a quick few of me and my girl.

Nerys was trying her best not to smile for the photos to start with, but as you can see she didn’t last long before bursting out laughing!

Now, on to my four favourite photos that were shared in the last week.

First up is this incredibly sweet photo from Katy at Hot Pink Wellingtons.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m a bit of a sucker for baby-wearing photos and I just couldn’t not include this one in this week’s round up!  How great does Katy look, and how pretty is that ring sling?!

Next up is this beautifully autumnal photo from Kerry at Kerry Louse Norris.

It’s such a sweet photo, made even sweeter by the fact that her daughter took it.  She really is a little photographer in the making!

My third pick for this week is from Donna at What The Redhead Said.

Doesn’t this photo just make you smile along with them, they all look so happy!  Such a gorgeous capture by Colette of We’re Going On An Adventure.

My last pick for this week is this lovely photo from Laura at Life With Baby Kicks.

Well done to Laura’s husband for pushing through and completing the marathon, and more importantly well done to her son for doing such wonderful writing on the signs!

Thank you so much to everyone who is using #ShowYouWereThere, I love seeing your photos popping up over on instagram, they always bring a huge smile to my face!

Now, my turn.

Last week in my round up I admitted that I hadn’t been getting in front of the camera that much, and I pledged to make a point of doing it at least once a week from now on.  Well I’m off to a good start, with this windswept photo taken at Swansea bay with the wild winds of storm Brian whistling past me!

Did anyone else venture out in the stormy weather, or did you choose the more sensible option and stay inside?!

Another Sunday, another round up from my lovely little community #ShowYouWereThere.

Now, on to my four favourite photos that were shared in the last week.

My first pick for this week is this lovely family selfie from Sue at Life Starts After Coffee.  In the caption Sue said that she had an abscess when the photo was taken, but honestly I would never have known, she looks fab!  Hope it’s all sorted for you now though Sue!

Next up in this gorgeous baby-wearing photo from Nicola at Mummy to Dex.  I’m such a sucker for a baby-wearing photo, and this one just really makes me smile, it’s such a happy photo.

My third choice for this week is from Amy at The Smallest of Things.  Not only is this a lovely photo, but the caption that Amy wrote for it has really stuck with me this week.  Her attitude and determination to fight her anxiety is just really inspiring.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BaBY69PBTLs/?tagged=showyouwerethere

Finally, I’ve chosen this lovely mother/daughter photo from Ruth at Mummy and the Mexicans.

On chilly, soggy autumn days it’s really nice to see a little summer flashback like this pop up in my feed!

Thank you so much to everyone who is using #ShowYouWereThere, I love seeing your photos popping up over on instagram, they always bring a huge smile to my face!

Now, my turn.

I’m really ashamed to admit that I’ve not posted a photo of myself in my round ups for a few weeks.  Because I’ve not been in front of the camera.  Which is just awful considering what this whole community is about.

So I’ve made a commitment to myself, that one way or another I WILL get in at least one photo every week.

And I’m off to a good start, with this little beach selfie that Steve and I took yesterday.

Show you were there round up

I just love how this photo seems to really emphasise the height difference between us!  I so often forget that he’s a foot taller than me, because I’m so used to it.  Then I see photos like this and they really make me smile because I just seem to short next to him.
