My Sunday photo – Happy Father’s day

My Sunday photo this week isn’t actually from this week, but it’s in celebration of Father’s day today.

It’s a photo of my Dad that was taken at my wedding back in 2007.  I haven’t written much about our wedding, (I think that post will come in November for our anniversary!) but it was a really quiet, low-key affair, which was perfect for us!

After the ceremony we went down to the beach for a few photos and at that point my Dad produced a cool box with champagne and sandwiches.  Which was just so perfectly HIM.  I wrote recently about how, every now and then, I realise that there are real similarities between me and him and this is something I’ve definitely inherited from him, the thinking about food and making sure there’s food available!

So my Sunday photo is simply this; Daddy with a sandwich, in the gorgeous light of a Swansea sunset.

The alphabet project – W is for Words

I had a little bit of a Proud Mummy moment the other day!  Rhys was drawing in the kitchen will I was busy cooking, and he suddenly said “that’s enough drawing, lets do our lessons instead”.  So I started to ask him if he knew how to spell ‘cat’, but as soon as I said it, I looked round at what he was doing and spotted that he’d actually already written it down!

After that he managed mat, sat, hat, tat, box and fox by himself.  Then, with my help, he also wrote apple and tower.  And what looks like ‘bop’ and ‘dop’ in the picture were attempts at ‘dog’.  That’s a tricky one apparently!

Oh I’m just so proud of him, he’s always loved letters and it’s great to see that he’s still interested and learning lots at nursery school!

So for this week’s alphabet project, W is for Words!

The alphabet project – V is for Velociraptor

Rhys has always loved lining things up.  Ever since he was little he’s enjoyed putting his toys and books in nice straight lines.  One of my friends told me that he most likely had a particular schema; he was probably a ‘connector’.  Then a few weeks ago I read a fab article that completely reinforced what Jen had said to me.

In ‘Does your child have a schema?‘ Annabel writes about how ‘connectors’ love laying stuff out, doing jigsaws and constructing things.  Summed Rhys up pretty well!

He was busy playing on the big windowsill in our lounge yesterday, as I was wondering what on earth I could photograph for the letter V, and I spotted that he’d very carefully lined up a load of his toy dinosaurs.  Well, I’m no expert on dinosaurs but I’m going to claim the lead one here as a Velociraptor.  It’s close enough for me anyway!

Baby first year photo 12 months

12 months of Nerys.

When I was pregnant with Nerys I spent a fair while browsing Pinterest looking for inspiration for how to capture her first year in photos.  There were quite a few really cute ideas, some using numbered vests, or blocks to spell out how old they are in each photo.  But in the end I decided to keep it simple and just aim for a headshot style photo every month for the year.

I did want some consistency in the photos though, to tie them all together at the end, so I decided to lie her down on her gorgeous, brightly coloured blanket for each photo.  I’m so pleased with the results!  And it’s only taken me three months to edit and put them all together!

I took quite a few photos at each sitting, so to start with here are a few of the more random ones that I really love:

I’m so pleased I took the time each month to take these photos and am really happy with the end result!

Here comes the sun!

After a rainy few days the sun decided to show his face at the end of this week, so we headed out to the park to meet up with friends and have a run around.  And Rhys hit a big milestone while we were there – he worked up the courage to go down the fireman’s pole!  He’d been building up to it for ages, and so badly wanted to do it, so he was really proud of himself when he managed it.  He must’ve done it about 20 times in a row once he’d mastered it!

Nerys is so keen to keep up with the bigger kids, she gives me mini heart attacks now and again trying to do things she’s not quite ready to do!  I’m much more relaxed when she’s safe on the swings!

Luckily for me she’ll sit quite happily on the swings for quite a while, before she gets bored of it and wants to get out and run around again.

I do love our local park and we spend a fair bit of time there when it’s dry.  The children have a good play at the playground, then we tend to wander over to the other side of the park where the duck pond is.  It’s a nice little routine that I think we’ll repeat many times this summer!

Oy with the poodles already

The alphabet project – U is for Up (too early!)

Nerys is going through a really fun phase at the moment.  It’s the ‘it’s 5.30am and I’m wide awake and ready to start my day’ phase.

Fun.

So my mornings have been fuelled by multiple cups of coffee and made easier by watching taped episodes of the Gilmore Girls.  Early starts are definitely more bearable with the Gilmore Girls.  I’ve seen all the episodes so many times now it’s just really comforting and familiar to watch.  And it’s provided me with some great quotes, including the classic on my mug.

There’s just something so right about watching the girls while drinking tons of coffee!

I’m not the only one still watching this show am I?!

The alphabet project – T is for Tiny

I’m still quite new to this whole blogging malarkey, and one of the things I’ve been really enjoying is finding and joining in with various linkys and blog hops.  I’ve been finding them really useful for giving some structure to my blog and for giving me some inspiration if I’m not quite sure what to blog about next!

I’d been thinking that I wanted to join in with some photography-based linkys so was really happy the other day when I came across PODcast who hosts a couple of different photography linkys every week.

So I’m jumping in with the alphabet project and making my peace with the fact that I’m starting at the letter T rather than A (which the perfectionist in me would prefer!).  The first word that came to mind that starts with T?  Tiny!

Nerys is 15 months old today and far from tiny – she’s right at the top of the height and weight charts in her red book.  Which makes me a little bit nostalgic for when she looked like she did in this photo!  She was a month old when I took it and time has taken on that strange quality where it feels like so long ago that she was this tiny, but at the same time if feels like the past 14 months have flown by.

She is so busy and so entertaining these days; I’m absolutely loving this stage.  But I do miss those tiny baby days!
