Today is my 34th birthday.
I thought for a while about writing a special birthday post. Maybe a list of things I’ve learnt in my 34 years. Or 34 things I’d like to do/experience/achieve in the next year.
But then I realised, what I really want to do right now is celebrate. Like I did last year, I want to acknowledge the positive things in my life. I want to focus on all the things, both big and small, that make my life pretty damn glorious.
So that’s what I’m giving you.
A list of 34 things that make me happy.
It is a random list of people I’m thankful for, quotes that make me smile, and ‘things’ that I love.

So, here we go, 34 things!
- My passionate, bright, full-of-life son.
- My funny, feisty, quick-witted little girl.
- Giggling like children with my sister. Honestly, when we get together we can get the giggles over nothing; I don’t laugh with anyone else the way I do with my sister.
- Shooting stars.
- Groaning at the sheer volume of puns my brother comes out with. Seriously, don’t ever mention ‘fish’ to him unless you’re prepared for a long run of ‘for cod’s sake’ style remarks!
- “It’s like a cow’s opinion. It just doesn’t matter. It’s moo”
- Coffee. Hot, glorious coffee.
- Having someone tell me they’ve read this blog and enjoyed it. Honestly, when someone comments on a post saying it’s helped them or moved them in some way it really does make my day.
- Flowers.
- Gilmore girls. Old episodes on repeat, and the new ones coming soon that I’m so excited about!
- “If eating cake is wrong, I don’t want to be right”
- Pizza. And the fact that my husband says he’d rather eat my homemade ones than Dominos. High praise as far as I’m concerned!
- Chocolate.
- Baking cakes with my children.
- Eating the cakes I’ve baked with my children!
- Photos. Taking them, making sure I’m in them, looking back on them weeks, months and years later.
- “Oy with the poodles already”
- My in-laws, who help me out so much and who love their grandchildren so, so much.
- “I’ve got about the next two and a half hours planned, and then there’s just darkness and possibly some dragons”
- Silliness. Honestly, what would this life be like without silliness?
- Late night chats with my parents when I go home.
- Knowing that my Mum reads this blog, and that she’s proud of me for writing it, even if I do sometimes mix up its and it’s!
- Finding videos from when I was pregnant, and remembering how amazing it felt to feel my babies squirm around and kick me in the strangest places.
- The sound of the sea.
- The smell of rain.
- In-jokes and random quotes that only my sister and I find funny, and having a husband who will search the internet to find out what a quote is from when we’ve forgotten!
- My beautiful nieces. Each and every one of them.
- Chick-flicks, rom-coms and cheesy music. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m just not that cool, and I’m ok with it!
- Red wine.
- Friends that you can see after months, and even years, and feel like you just saw them yesterday.
- “Oh I cant stop drinking the coffee, I stop drinking the coffee, I stop doing the standing and walking and the words putting into sentence doing”
- The brilliantly positive and helpful blogging community.
- My parents, who have been behind me every step of the way and taught me so much about life and love and the world.
- My husband, always my husband.
