34 things

Today is my 34th birthday.

I thought for a while about writing a special birthday post.  Maybe a list of things I’ve learnt in my 34 years.  Or 34 things I’d like to do/experience/achieve in the next year.

But then I realised, what I really want to do right now is celebrate.  Like I did last year, I want to acknowledge the positive things in my life.  I want to focus on all the things, both big and small, that make my life pretty damn glorious.

So that’s what I’m giving you.

A list of 34 things that make me happy.

It is a random list of people I’m thankful for, quotes that make me smile, and ‘things’ that I love.

30 things

So, here we go, 34 things!

  1. My passionate, bright, full-of-life son.
  2. My funny, feisty, quick-witted little girl.
  3. Giggling like children with my sister.  Honestly, when we get together we can get the giggles over nothing; I don’t laugh with anyone else the way I do with my sister.
  4. Shooting stars.
  5. Groaning at the sheer volume of puns my brother comes out with.  Seriously, don’t ever mention ‘fish’ to him unless you’re prepared for a long run of ‘for cod’s sake’ style remarks!
  6. “It’s like a cow’s opinion.  It just doesn’t matter.  It’s moo”
  7. Coffee.  Hot, glorious coffee.
  8. Having someone tell me they’ve read this blog and enjoyed it.  Honestly, when someone comments on a post saying it’s helped them or moved them in some way it really does make my day.
  9. Flowers.
  10. Gilmore girls.  Old episodes on repeat, and the new ones coming soon that I’m so excited about!
  11. “If eating cake is wrong, I don’t want to be right”
  12. Pizza.  And the fact that my husband says he’d rather eat my homemade ones than Dominos.  High praise as far as I’m concerned!
  13. Chocolate.
  14. Baking cakes with my children.
  15. Eating the cakes I’ve baked with my children!
  16. Photos.  Taking them, making sure I’m in them, looking back on them weeks, months and years later.
  17. “Oy with the poodles already”
  18. My in-laws, who help me out so much and who love their grandchildren so, so much.
  19. “I’ve got about the next two and a half hours planned, and then there’s just darkness and possibly some dragons”
  20. Silliness.  Honestly, what would this life be like without silliness?
  21. Late night chats with my parents when I go home.
  22. Knowing that my Mum reads this blog, and that she’s proud of me for writing it, even if I do sometimes mix up its and it’s!
  23. Finding videos from when I was pregnant, and remembering how amazing it felt to feel my babies squirm around and kick me in the strangest places.
  24. The sound of the sea.
  25. The smell of rain.
  26. In-jokes and random quotes that only my sister and I find funny, and having a husband who will search the internet to find out what a quote is from when we’ve forgotten!
  27. My beautiful nieces.  Each and every one of them.
  28. Chick-flicks, rom-coms and cheesy music.  I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m just not that cool, and I’m ok with it!
  29. Red wine.
  30. Friends that you can see after months, and even years, and feel like you just saw them yesterday.
  31. “Oh I cant stop drinking the coffee, I stop drinking the coffee, I stop doing the standing and walking and the words putting into sentence doing”
  32. The brilliantly positive and helpful blogging community.
  33. My parents, who have been behind me every step of the way and taught me so much about life and love and the world.
  34. My husband, always my husband.
