Throughout the month of April I’ve been making an effort to look on the positive side of things and celebrate how green the grass actually is on my side of the fence. I’ve loved how it’s helped me focus on all the good things that there are in my life.
I’ve put together this list of 30 positive things from the last month so that I always have something to come back and look at if I find myself thinking that the grass might be greener somewhere else!

- The lovely sunny weather.
- All the bright and beautiful flowers springing up everywhere.
- My gorgeous, too-grown-up-now 4 year old boy.
- Nerys starting to sign ‘please’ when she wants something and ‘thank you’ when she gets it.
- Blossom on all the trees.
- Mummy friends.
- Chocolate.
- The view of Mumbles and the sea from my house.
- Living within walking distance of great parks and the beach.
- The sun now reaching the part of the garden where my washing line is so I can actually get stuff washed and dried in a day!
- A new baby has arrived in the extended family.
- Calpol.
- Coffee.
- 2 birthday celebrations for Rhys = 2 chocolate cakes!
- My wonderfully supportive parents.
- Rhys gets to stay at his school for reception in September.
- Yummy meals cooked ridiculously easily in the slow cooker.
- Fun visits from my amazing sister and her family.
- The fact that I got very lucky with my in-laws.
- Red wine. I forgot how lovely you are!
- Barbecues in the garden.
- Finally getting organised and clearing some old books and dvds from the house.
- Listening to old cds in the car on the school run.
- Seeing how much Nerys has blossomed since we stopped breastfeeding.
- Reading lovely comments from friends, family and a few other visitors to this blog. I’m so flattered that people are enjoying what I’m writing.
- Laughing at random old quotes from tv programs with my sister and my best friend.
- Rocking a super-cool new Buffy t-shirt.
- Being able to wear whatever I want, after a year of having to consider if I can easily breastfeed in it!
- Nerys stopping what she’s doing for the Gilmore Girls theme tune, just like Rhys used to do.
- My husband. Always my husband.
I’ve really liked taking the time to focus on and note the positive things, big and small, that are in my life.
I might not do it every day but I will still be posting these positive things quite regularly on Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #mygrassisgreen. I’d love to see other people using it too!

I love the last one. I feel the same about my wife. A lovely positive post. And i must get a slow cooker 🙂

Thank you! And you really should get a slow cooker, they’re brilliant – got jacket potatoes cooking in mine today!
Thanks for number 15! That is a great list, lovely to see you being so positive. Life is good.
Thank you for your support! I really am grateful for it! x
what a lovely positive post xx
Thank you! x
What a great way to start my day. It was the first blog post that I read this morning and it has put me in a great frame of mind. Stopping by from #Sharethejoy.
Oh thank you so much for your lovely comment! Glad I got your day off to a good start! x
Lush!! I love that bit about your in-laws…I struck lucky in that respect too 😉 Thanks for linking up to #TheList xx
Thanks! You hear such horror stories about in-laws – it’s nice to be one of the lucky ones isn’t it! x
What a great list – and it’s so true that by focusing on the positive things – and one a day sounds pretty achievable – your whole outlook can change. I love that hashtag too as our grass is probably often greener than we think, I’ll be looking out for it on Twitter – thanks for linking up to #sharethejoy
Thank you! I am finding that by focusing on the good and positive things I realise how green the grass actually is on my side of the fence! x
I started a gratitude book a few years back. I think I’m going to search it out and start using it again. I remember how happy it made me to draw little pictures or to paste in photos or ticket stubs of something I had seen or done that had made me grateful.
Such a lovely idea, like a scrapbook full of wonderful memories! It’s funny though, how we start these things and they make us feel good but for some reason we stop doing them. I know I’ll have to make a conscious effort to keep focusing on and posting the positive things in my days.
