See, I’ve lived in Swansea for about 15 and a half years now.
This is where I’ve built my family, and my life.
This is home.
But, at the same time, my parent’s house in Kent is home also.
I grew up there.
I lived there for 18 years before leaving for University.
It’s home. I mean, my parent’s landline number is listed on my phone under ‘home’!
So I’ve been feeling a bit confused, wondering what this word ‘home’ really means.
Is it a certain place? A particular building? Is it the place where special memories are made, or simply the place you return to every evening?
For me, I think it’s a mixture of all of those things.
Home is where there is history, where those special memories are made, where there is comfort and security.
Above all though, I think that home is where the people you love are. And in that case, there really is no place like it.
They bought that house from the plans. No one else has ever lived there. All it’s memories are OUR memories.
And, while I’m not sure about this house I’m currently living in, Swansea in general is most definitely home too. As soon as I moved here it felt right, then the moment I fell in love with my husband it felt like home.
I’m pretty lucky I think, to have two places to call home!
I’d love to know what you think about this. Do you still call your childhood home ‘home’? Or have you moved on to a new place that feels more ‘home’ to you now?!

Same as you, I also have two places I call home. My home country in Phils. is my home even though it’s been 8 yrs since I left the place. Where I am now in Scotland is also my home since I moved in here with my husband and have our family. I think we’re both lucky to have two places we considered home. By the way, Thanks for linking up with #candidcuddles
We are quite lucky aren’t we! x
I actually just wrote a post about what home means to me if you want to read it, it’s here: http://www.rockinrandommom.com/2016/02/16/what-home-means-to-me/
I love your quote because I love my home but I also love my hometown. Even though I left there because I didn’t feel like I belonged there, I still feel a sense of kinship with my home town that I don’t have with the town I live in but where I am now is my home. It can get kind of confusing I guess. #candidcuddles
It does get so confusing doesn’t it! I think ‘home’ is such a mix of different things, it’s hard to define it! I’ll go and have a read of your post now. x
I don’t actually live that far from my parents but I still slip up and call their house ‘home’ sometimes. I think it’s just that feeling of comfort and familiarity. x #candidcuddles
That’s it, isn’t it, comfort and familiarity, sounds like home to me! x
Great quote. I miss my old home where my parents are. I don’t particularly like the house we live in but it’s how we make it and that counts. We have lived in a few areas and funnily enough a few feel like home whenever i return!
Interesting, so maybe part of what makes somewhere feel like home IS the particular memories that we make there. x
Home is where you hang your hat! We’ve had a number of houses over the years, but I am at home when I’m with my people…wherever that may be 🙂
I love that, that we can make anywhere home if we’re with the people we love! x
Home is whereever my husband, girls and the dog are to be found. We have had many house moves over the years but home is definitely them not a place xx
I love how people can be ‘home’. I definitely felt that with my husband. x
I love this, Home is where my family are. A home can be anywhere but i believe i’st where my loved ones are and i feel safe with them. I dont think its necessarily the physical place, it where the heart is.
Thanks for linking up with Candid Cuddles
Yep, I’d agree with that, home is where the heart is! x
