We had so many possible chances for family photos this month.
So many trips to the beach, to the pier, to the park, when we could’ve simply handed the camera to someone to snap a quick picture for us. But for one reason or another we just didn’t do it.
Instead we ended up in our back garden, right at the end of the month, squeezing in a few photos before August ticked over into September.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the photos I take recently.
When it comes to our me and mine pictures, I always have this image in my head of gorgeous family photos, in beautiful locations and a range of poses. And it never quite pans out that way. Our family photos are always a bit more haphazard, taken when the chance arises, rather than in a well thought out photo session.
What I’ve come to realise recently though is that I quite like that.
Because the photos we take feel like us. They feel real. While I’m sure I would love photos of us all colour-coordinated and smiling in a meadow, I’m not convinced the photos would feel like a true representation of us. As a family we’re a bit more haphazard. We’re not all that polished.
So I’m choosing to embrace our perfectly imperfect family photos each month. Both the ones taken mid-month, when I’m feeling organised and on top of things, and those taken at the last possible moment when time has run away from us.
Even the photos that look like this.

Because this is us.
