In the botanical gardens in Singleton park there is a sundial.
And Nerys is absolutely fascinated by it.
With all the technology and electronics that she sees and interacts with on a daily basis, this most basic of time-telling devices is so intriguing to her. She thinks it’s incredible that this piece of stone and metal can tell her the time using just sunlight.

Whenever we go for a walk through the gardens she likes to go and look at the sundial.
The last few times we’ve been it’s been overcast, but this weekend the sun made an appearance and she was so happy to see the clock actually working. I just love seeing how amazed both the children are by this kind technology of sorts. I love the reminder it gives me of how amazing the world is and how much we can learn just from watching the weather and the light and seasons.
They always say don’t they, that one of the best things about having children is seeing the world through their eyes.
Experiencing things all over again with a new sense of wonder.
Slowing down and noticing all the beauty around us that we have somehow started to take for granted.
It’s something that is definitely true for me, and something I am truly grateful for.

I love a sundial! I remember seeing one lots during my own childhood.
To be honest I do still find them quite fascinating now too! x
My favourite thing about taking the kids on adventures is experiencing the magic all over again through them. I think as grown ups we often overlook the little things, kids make us stop and enjoy the moment. The botanical gardens sounds like a lovely place to visit and both children look really happy to be there. #livingarrows
Yes! I love how much I notice again now that I have the children. And we all love visiting the botanical gardens, it’s so simple but beautiful to see the plants and flowers grow and change over the seasons. x
Nothing beats going on an adventure to experience the magic all together. This is part of the reason I love working with children so much.
It is amazing isn’t it, it really changes your perspective on things when you spend time with children. x
I have made a point of stopping with the girls on the way back from school to listen to the birds. They love it, especially if we can see which bird is singing.
It’s so lovely isn’t it, to just slow down and notice those things. We could hear the church bells from our kitchen the other day and I just stopped and listened to them, it reminded me so much of hearing the bells from Ash. x
I was given a plate sundial when i was younger and all 3 of my boys were fascinated with it.
I love that! I wonder if we could find one to put in the garden, Nerys would love it! x
Alice gets fascinated by things like this too, I love it! Beautiful photos x
This is such a lovely post, and gorgeous pictures too. I love Nerys’ hat! #LivingArrows
I love a sundial. It’s such a simple thing but shows just how advanced our ancestors must have been. The photos are beautiful – and your children are growing so fast! x
I have never really thought about it before but I can totally see why she thinks its fascinating. You are completely right its lovely seeing and understanding things through their eyes. I really need to remember this with my two x
