I feel a bit like the last man standing this morning.
The rest of the family have got a bit of a nasty cough and cold thing going on, while I’m actually feeling pretty good having finally shifted the virus that hit me on new year’s eve. I have a bad feeling it’s only a matter of time before this bug gets me though, I don’t like my chances of getting away with not catching it!
So between the splutters and sneezes and rather wild weather here we had a bit of a quiet weekend.
Most Sunday’s we’ll go for a walk somewhere after the children’s swimming lessons but it was so cold and windy yesterday that we just popped to the little park near the pool for a play and then headed home.
The park is just round the corner from the local shops, and I left Steve and the children to play while I popped round to pick up a few last bits for our dinner. So this week’s living arrows photos are courtesy of my husband.

The rest of the afternoon once we got home was spent watching Moana and generally pottering around at home.
Rhys had a book on how to draw different Pokemon for Christmas and he spent quite a bit of his afternoon trying his hand at quite a few of them. He also very patiently helped Nerys draw some too, and was brilliant with her when she struggled and got frustrated.
I was in the other room, listening to him tell her that it’s OK to make mistakes and that it didn’t matter if her picture was perfect or not, as long as she was having fun.
Considering how worried he has been in the past about getting things right and how frustrated he’s been when he’s not got something right on the first try he had just the right words to reassure his little sister. And he seems to have taken it to heart himself too. When his first attempts at drawing a Pokemon weren’t quite right he was fine with it, and simply tried again.
It’s the little things that make you proud as a parent isn’t it.
Those little moments where you realise how much they’re learning and growing and developing before your eyes.

My family had the cough/cold thing WEEKS ago and it’s finally caught up with me! I hope you manage to avoid it x
I love the moments that you hear when the children don’t think you’re looking/listening. They are definitely the best moments (especially the nicer ones)
What lovely words of wisdom about making mistakes not mattering.
Mine are obsessed with Pokemon at the moment and watch it every day! I’m going to have to check that drawing book out as I think mine would love it – thank you! #LivingArrows
That is so lovely of him. I have been listening to a podcast these days about children’s self esteem and I think you’ll love listening to it too. The podcast is called Parenting Beyond Discipline and I think it was episode 2.
Oh gosh it’s that time of year for it isn’t it? I hope everyone’s on the mend now x
Oh thats great its obviously something that he has picked up from you! Its nice to know when the messages lad and what a lovely big brother. I hope mine are like that together one day xx
I hope they are all better now, and you didn’t get it. I’ve come down with a cold today, its really miserable x
Aww, what a lovely post. Toby struggles with not wanting to do things in case they aren’t perfect so it’s fab to hear that Rhys is managing to overcome similar feelings. We’re all poorly here too – it feels like we’ve been snotty for months now! #LivingArrows
