Fresh ideas for redecorating your bedroom

Fresh ideas to redecorate your bedroom

Life these days seems to be all about grabbing precious moments when you can. And when you’ve got a young family, the rare opportunity to lie in at the weekend is one of those moments.

However, trying to relax in a bedroom that’s seen better days is almost impossible. If this sounds familiar, then you may be interested in these fresh ideas to redecorate your bedroom.

Calming patterns for the walls

It can feel like you’re climbing the walls some days, but the walls of your bedroom should be a picture of calm. A reassuring presence rather than prison-like walls. If they don’t feel like this, it could be time for a complete change.

Wallpaper is a great way of introducing a calming pattern to the walls. Whether it’s a wispy abstract pattern, soothing botanicals or mellow florals, there’s almost certainly a design that will have you feeling more relaxed. Even if you don’t know how to wallpaper a room, this can be a great option. Especially if you can rope in a relative or decorator to do the hard work for you.

Introduce soft lighting

Harsh lighting has no place in the bedroom, so why do so many of us have one central ceiling light burning away? Think about the fancy hotels you’ve stayed in. How many side lights and lamps were there in the room? Quite a few, I would guess. And that’s because it creates a much nicer atmosphere for rest and relaxation.

Use plenty of smaller, softer lights around the room. Wall lights or side lamps by the bed and floor lamps in the corners for example.

Invigorate the senses

Relaxing in the bedroom can be made more of an experience with a few little additions. Using scented bouquets of flowers, or creating aromas with an oil or wax burner, can change the ambience of the bedroom. So can the use of artwork. Think pictures of idyllic landscapes and blue skies.

Another way to create a calming room and feed the senses, is through the use of tactile textiles. Use a variety of natural materials to enhance your feeling of comfort in the room. The bed is the obvious place to start, but don’t forget about the curtains or blinds, flooring, seats and light shades.
