I’ve been quite quietly working away at something that means a lot to me.
And I think it’s time to start shouting about it a bit more.
You might not know this but I have a little Instagram community using #ShowYouWereThere that I absolutely love and that I would be thrilled to see more people joining in with.
So what is #ShowYouWereThere about?
It’s all about getting more parents in more photos.

#ShowYouWereThere is an Instagram community for photos that feature you in some way.
It really doesn’t matter what the photo is, as long as you’re in it.
The photo could be:
- a selfie
- a family portrait
- a snap of you with your partner
- you and your best friend together
- an outfit of the day picture
- your shoes
- your hand holding a precious cup of coffee or glass of wine
If it shows that you were there, then please do tag it #showyouwerethere!
Every fortnight I share four photos from the #ShowYouWereThere community here on my blog, which means a lovely little back link for bloggers, and a lot of fun for me looking through all the photos to make my choices!
Now, I bet you have a whole load of excuses and reasons why you’re not in that many photos.
If this is you, then take a few minutes and go and read these posts:
8 reasons you shouldn’t have your photo taken (and one really important reason you should)
How to be in more photos when you don’t have anyone to take them for you
Stop making excuses and get in front of the camera
The theme behind all of those posts is that you should push aside pretty much any excuse you can think of for not being in photos.
Because it’s not about you.
It’s about your children, and the people who love you. These photos are for them, for the future.
So please, stop worrying about how you look in photos and just get in more of them. Get in more photos with your children and for you children.
Print them out and put them in good old-fashioned photo albums.
Have a photobook made with all your family photos.
Share them over on Instagram using #ShowYouWereThere.
I’m looking forward to seeing you!

I love this! I do have a lot of photos I am in with Olivia mostly it is others taking them of us and not so much me, but we do have a few and especially of the things we want to remember too! I will definitely be joining in with this thank you! Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next time
I love this! I find it so true and so important. I look back at my pictures on my phone and I am not in a lot of them. I am always the one taking the pictures. My husband just doesn’t think to grab the camera as much as I do. LOL. #KCACOLS
This really is a great idea and a lovely way to capture lots of beautiful and natural pics. Our 9yo doesn’t want to have her picture online (which I’m quite relieved about tbh) so I won’t be joining in! #kcacols
Oh we absolutely need to respect our children’s wishes on things like this, the important thing is to be getting in enough photos for you and for them. x
I really like this idea, that we should remember to be in some of the photos ourselves, too. I try to remember to get a few selfies together with our boy (and hubby too occassionally) when we’re out and about. I probably won’t be sharing those on IG, but even if you don’t see me there, I’m with you in spirit on this x #KCACOLS
That’s brilliant that you make a point of getting in those photos, and while I would love to see you Insta, the important thing really is that you have the photos for you and your family. x
I do take a lot of selfies with my little one, but am a little too ashamed of my size to get fully into shots. Totally relate to this post #KCACOLS
I think it’s something so many of us can relate to, and it’s great that you’re still getting in all those selfies with your little one. Every now and then though you have to push yourself a bit and get in some ‘proper’ photos, I promise that you’re the only one who sees the ‘flaws’ that you see. Our children especially, they just see us, the people they love. x
Great idea. My wife takes a lot of selfies with the kids, but I’ll admit that there really aren’t a lot out there with me in them #KCACOLS
Jump in those selfies with them! I really hope you will start getting in more photos, it’ll mean so much to your kids. x
Ah i’m going to use this tag! I try and be in more of my photos on Instagram. I find they do better from it! #KCACOLS
Oh yay, looking forward to seeing you using #ShowYouWereThere! x
I was in about 5% of the photos and then recently I’ve been making sure that I get in more, whether its asking people to take ones of us or selfies I’m actually getting more visible:)

That’s brilliant, makes me so happy to hear! x
Ooo I LOVE this and will definitely be taking part in #showyouwerethere I’m always the one too busy capturing the moments that I often forget to be in them. It is these pictures our little loves will treasure the most. Thanks for the reminder x #KCACOLS
It’s not always easy is it, when you’re the one taking the photos, but it’s so important to get in some of them too! Looking forward to seeing you using #ShowYouWereThere! x
This is so true & such a great idea! #KCACOLS
