make your garden more private

Ways to make your garden more private

Do you want to enjoy your outdoor space without worrying about prying eyes looking at what you and your kids are doing? Me too. Don’t get me wrong, I love most of my neighbours but I would still like to enjoy this part of my home with as much privacy and comfort as I have inside. Is that too much to ask?

I don’t think it should be. After all, my outdoor space is part of my home.

So, I’ve been looking at different ways to make my garden more private and thought I’d share with you. Whether you are curious about how to increase garden privacy or have been having trouble with nosy neighbours, I’ve put together some of my favourite ways to add more privacy in your outdoor space.

Install a tall and sturdy garden fence.

A good garden fence can make wonders. As Luxirare says, “A good quality fence that will not only offer privacy but also safety.”

Is your garden fence in great condition or has it been damaged by strong winds and it could use a change? Maybe it’s time for a replacement.

Speedy Fixings recommend installing post supports to add stability and support to your garden fence. Not only do you want a tall garden fence that will shield the view of both your neighbours and people who walk by but also a sturdy and strong fence that will withstand the elements and offer your home extra security.

Plant different sized trees.

“Planting trees around your garden will not only improve privacy in your garden but will also add a decorative element to your outdoors and will bring you closer to nature.” explains Really Missing Sleep in a recent article. And I couldn’t agree more!

When planting trees, it’s essential to think about the placement of different sized trees. For instance, tall trees can be planted near your garden fence to help completely block out the view from the road. If you don’t want to plant tall trees in your small garden, you can add a wall of hedges along your garden fence instead.

Smaller trees and fuller trees can be planted near areas where you want privacy the most. Want a secluded and completely private dining area?

Plant your smaller trees around it. “This will create a sheltered space away from view. Plus, it will also give you natural shade – something you will definitely enjoy during the warm, sunny summer days!” mentions Mum’s the Boss.
