You know the kind of wind that, when you try and talk into it, it just takes your breath away? It was like that. But with sand. So not ideal for a tired 2 year old.
Instead we headed to the little park across the road from the beach which was a bit more sheltered and the kids had a great time running around. I was glad I’d wrapped everyone up though, because it was still pretty damn cold out.
And the thing is, it’s easy to fall into the trap of complaining about it.
Where’s Spring?!
It got warmer the other day, why is so cold again now?!
Seriously though, where’s Spring?
My husband gets really annoyed by people complaining that the weather is rubbish. He really believes that there is no such thing as bad weather, there are just different kinds of weather. And as long as you’re prepared and dressed appropriately, it’s all good!
While leads me to this quote:
Some people will talk about rain as if it’s ‘bad weather’. Well, I personally love the rain. I love the sound of it falling, I love the smell of a rainfall after a really hot, dry spell. I love the cosiness of being inside during a rainstorm.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t relish doing the school-run in the rain, mainly because it makes juggling a child, a toddler and all their stuff that little bit harder.
But then I see Nerys taking her time getting back to the car after we’ve dropped Rhys off, and there’s a big smile on her face as the rain falls on her hood and adds to the big puddles she’s having a blast jumping in. And I’m reminded of that quote. As long as she’s dressed appropriately, it’s all good!
Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I think I would get really bored if I lived in a country that had hot, sunny weather year-round.
I love the changing seasons here.
I love all the weather that comes with that. I mean, I love hot, sunny days in the middle of summer when we can spend our time out in the parks and beaches. But by the start of September I’m ready for it to cool off a bit. I’m ready for the cosiness of Autumn and Winter. And by the time April rolls round, I’m ready for the sun to come out a bit more again and to be to pack away the hats and gloves.
Hmm, maybe I’m fickle? Maybe I’m just British, I don’t know!
What do you think? Do you agree that there’s really no such thing as bad weather? Or do you dispair at the cold and rain and long to emigrate to somewhere hot?!

I love the changing seasons too and this quote is great, one of my favourites. We love going to the beach and we go all year round! So long as the kids are appropriately dressed we always have a blast! 🌸
The kids really don’t care do they, they love the beach all year round! x
I’ve never heard this quote and, honestly, never looked at it like this. But, what an absolutely lovely way to look at things. As much as some want to complain about the rain, it is necessary for life. We were in California over Christmas, and they were in a long long drought. One that left them with a water limit, and unable to grow anything in their garden. There are a lot of things in life I can look at like this. Thanks for the reminder <3 #candidcuddles
Wow, when you hear stories like that it makes you pretty grateful for the rain we get here. And you’re right, I hadn’t thought about it really but this quote can be applied to other things in life! x
I love the rain too!! We are in Autumn here and it is starting to get colder, but still nice enough. We just got some bunnies and it has been lovely sitting in the back yard just playing and watching them. The kids love it. Great post! #candidcuddles linked after you xx
Oh that sounds so lovely! I love those days when it’s still warm enough to sit out but you can feel the change of seasons coming! x
What a great and funny quote. I love a good thunderstorm. But c’mon! I looked outside yesterday and the lawn was covered in snow =( It did melt by this morning but… sigh… ok, I’ll keep my boots out.
Haha, ok, I’ll allow complaining about snow when it really should be Springtime! x
I’m not a huge fan of the rain but we have it here most days – I live in the west of Ireland, rain capitol of the world. I know it’s needed but I much prefer sunny days. I don’t mind if it’s hot or cold though I just think everyone is in a better mood when the sun shines. I’d love to think the way you & your hubby do though! I think we’d feel more positive if we thought that way! Thank you for sharing with #candidcuddles x
Haha, I think you need to embrace the rain Becky! x
I’m the same I love seeing the changing seasons and sometimes a rainy day is just what you need for an excuse to laze on the sofa xx #candidcuddles
Yes! Rainy days on the sofa are the best! x
I haven’t heard this quote before either. It’s a good one 😄. Little Button loves learning about the changing seasons, I am glad we do have such clear weather changes throughout the year…. but I have to admit loving sunshine days the most #candidcuddles
See that’s it though, you appreciate the lovely sunshine days even more because of all the other weather we get here! x
