If the thought of going away for a week’s holiday with the children doesn’t feel all that relaxing, but you still fancy a trip somewhere, a city break in the UK is a great option.
There are so many amazing cities you could go to for a long weekend, and Liverpool is one city in particular that is great to visit with the family.
If you’ve never been before then Liverpool ONE is a great place to start to get to know the city. There are so many places to visit and things to do there, it’s a great way to keep the whole family happy for the day.

1. Hit the shops
There are loads of shops to wander round in Liverpool ONE so there should be something to keep the whole family happy. If you can, try to divide and conquer so you can have a look round the clothes shops while your partner takes the children to the toy shops.
Whether you’re a high-end designer lover, or you prefer hunting for high street bargains, there is plenty of choice to please everyone. And the children will have a great time exploring the Disney store and the Lego shop.
2. Try something different for lunch
Leave the sandwiches and meal deals for another day and try something a bit different for lunch.
You could head to Turtle Bay to try some authentic Caribbean food, taste some Mexican style tapas from Wahaca or pick up some Asian fusion food from Wok and Go.
If your children aren’t quite that adventurous then don’t worry, there are also plenty of places serving more familiar options like Pizza Express and Five Guys.
3. Take in a movie
The Odeon cinema at Liverpool ONE has 18 screens, including an IMAX screen, showing all the latest releases and is a great place to visit as a family.
If you’re visiting at the weekend or during the school summer holidays then you can take advantage of the Odeon kids club and get tickets for just £2.50 each.
4. Head to the park
If your children need to run around and burn off some energy after sitting still at the cinema then take them over to Chavasse Park.
The park features 5 acres of landscaped gardens, with space for the children to play and winding paths for them to explore.
Throughout the year there are all sorts of events held in Chavasse Park, from sandy beaches in the summer to festive events at Christmas time, so depending on when you visit you might have some extra fun things to enjoy.
5. Enjoy a coffee and a treat
Refuel in one of the various cafes dotted around Liverpool ONE.
Or for a real treat head to the Hotel Chocolat cafe for a cup of hot chocolate and a browse through all the chocolatey goodies.
There is so much to do in Liverpool ONE, it’s a great way to spend a day while visiting the city for a long weekend with the family.
