Molly Brown London jewellery review

Ever since she was a toddler Nerys has been drawn to sparkly things.  She’s always loved looking through her Nana’s jewellery and putting glittery clips in her hair.  So when the lovely people at Molly Brown got in touch to ask if we would like to take a look at their jewellery and choose something for Nerys I immediately said yes.

Molly Brown is a jewellery company based in London who make beautiful pieces of jewellery for children.  I spent what felt like hours browsing the website, because I just couldn’t decide which of the gorgeous pieces I thought Nerys would like the most.

In the end though, with Steve’s help, I settled on the pearl station necklace.

molly-brown-childrens-jewellery

As soon as we opened the box that arrived from Molly Brown I was smiling.

Out came a simple yet pretty pink gift bag, tied up with a lovely chocolate brown bow.

Molly Brown have actually had their gift wrapping be described as the best in the industry, and honestly I can see why.  It just looks and feels beautiful and high end.

molly-brown-london-jewellery

Inside the bag was the presentation box, in the same pretty pink as the bag and tied up with the same chocolate brown ribbon.

I love the sense of ceremony you get from untying all the ribbons, it just adds a little special something to the whole process!

As soon as we opened the box I knew we had made the right choice by picking the pearl station necklace.

It is just beautiful.

And Nerys couldn’t wait to get her hands on it!

molly-brown-pearl-station-necklace

The necklace chain is made of sterling silver, and you can adjust it to 12″, 14″ and 16″ so it really can grow with Nerys.

Dotted along with necklace are freshwater pearls that are as pretty as they are classic.

I really love how this necklace seems so timeless, by which I mean that I think it looks lovely as a necklace for a child or a teenager to wear, but I would also quite happily wear it myself now!

molly-brown-child-necklace-pearl-station

And that is essence behind all the Molly Brown collections.

They are all designed to be simple yet sophisticated, so that they will last a lifetime.

childs-necklace-molly-brown-london

Nerys absolutely loves her necklace, and was so excited when we let her wear it out to Singleton park for our little photo session in the botanical gardens.

I think she feels really quite grown up having a necklace of her very own, and she’s been loving taking it out of its box and admiring it and then carefully putting it away again.  And while this is a piece of children’s jewellery, it is very grown up in my opinion.  It’s definitely not play jewellery, it is a beautiful necklace, made with high quality materials, including a small and ever so slightly fiddly clasp.

So while Nerys is still so little I think we’ll keep it for special occasions, or for when we’re playing at home and she can put it on while I am around to keep an eye on her.

As she gets older though I’m sure she will love to wear it was much as she can, because it is so classic I think it would go with pretty much any outfit.

molly-brown-jewellery-pearl-station-necklace

The pearl station necklace is so well made, the quality is lovely, and the little finishing touch of the Molly Brown tag adds just a little bit of fun and personality to it which I love.

molly-brown-jewellery-pearl-necklace-review

We have all been really impressed with the necklace, and with Molly Brown in general.

The attention to detail is very impressive, from the beautiful packaging to the lovely handwritten note tucked inside.  Any child with an interest in jewellery would be absolutely thrilled to receive a parcel from Molly Brown.

If you’re ever looking for a special gift for a child, perhaps for their birthday or for a christening, then Molly Brown is a great place to start.  They offer necklaces, bracelets and earrings in several different styles, so no matter who you’re buying for you’re bound to find something suitable.

And whatever you decide to choose, it’s bound to be a gift they treasure forever.

One hundred toys – Grimm’s wooden toys review

I am really loving watching Nerys play lately.  She is getting more and more creative and seems to really enjoy imaginative play.  She loves role-playing games like mummies and daddies and will spend ages playing shops with any willing play mates.  She also really loves playing with her dollhouse and using building blocks to create other buildings and things like slides for her little dolls to play on.

So when Alexis from 100 toys asked if I would like to review some items from their amazing online shop, I knew almost straight away what range I would pick from.

The gorgeous wooden toys from Grimm’s caught my eye right from the start.

So I was thrilled when we were sent the Grimm’s coloured house and the Grimm’s purple framehouse to take a look at.

Grimm’s coloured house

one-hundred-toys-grimms-rainbow-house

The first toy that we opened up was this beautifully brightly coloured house.

The pieces are all handmade from lime wood, and instead of being painted and varnished they’re dipped into a non-toxic colour stain and left with a natural finish.

I really love the look that this gives the toy, and it makes playing with it an amazing tactile experience too.

The real beauty of this matte finish though is that it means the pieces don’t slip off each other, so you can get really creative with your constructions!

grimms-rainbow-house-one-hundred-toys-reviewI love how this toy opens up so many play possibilities, for children of all ages.

For little ones it is a great toy for stacking and learning about balance.  Then for bigger children, all it takes is a little bit of imagination and it can become a house with a garage, a tunnel for cars to drive through, or a series of caves for dolls to explore.

And just look at it, it’s so pretty!

This is one toy that will most definitely not be kept tucked away in the toybox, I’m happy for this to sit proudly on our mantelpiece brightening up our lounge!

Grimm’s purple framehouse

purple-framehouse-grimms-one-hundred-toys

The second toy we were sent to review was the equally gorgeous purple framehouse.

Each framehouse is made up of  24 pieces of different shapes and sizes that mean your child’s creations are only really limited by their imaginations.  They can build a tall tower block or a whole little village of houses.  As with the coloured house, every piece in this set is made of lime wood and hand-dipped in non-toxic colour stain to give beautiful colours with a natural finish.

grimms-purple-house-one-hundred-toys-review

The framehouse comes in purple, green, blue and red so there is bound to be a set that appeals to every child.  I chose purple for Nerys as it’s one of her favourite colours and I loved the mix of tones in this colourway.

One thing I really love about the Grimm’s toys is how well they integrate with each other.

You can really get creative when you mix up the coloured house and the framehouse, building all manner of towers and houses and tunnels and caves.

As part of the Grimm’s range you can also get simple wooden cars, trees and people which would add even more fun.  I can see us expanding our collection quite soon to include some of these things to build a colourful little world for Nerys (and Rhys!) to play with.

grimms-wooden-toys-review-one-hundred-toys

I’ve left the coloured house and the framehouse out on a table in our living room and Nerys has been coming back to play with them over and over again in the last few days.

It’s been wonderful to watch her instinctively know how to play with the blocks, as they’re so open ended there isn’t really a ‘wrong’ way to play with them!  The chunky pieces are just right for her hands and they’re reassuring to me as they feel like they’ll stand up to a bit of falling down.

Wooden toys in general have a timeless feel to them, and these toys from Grimm’s are no exception.

They feel classic, but cool at the same time, and I love the thought that my children will be able to get so much use of them and then potentially pass them on to their own children one day.

If I don’t decide to keep them for myself as little wooden ornaments that is!

Arthur Price Despicable Me children’s collection – Review

Ever since they first saw Despicable Me Rhys and Nerys have been big fans of the minions.

We’ve had some plastic plates with minions on for about a year now that still get used all the time, and they make us all smile every time we see the happy little minion faces on them!

So when I was asked if we would like to review a proper china dinner set from Arthur Price, featuring the minions, along with a themed set of children’s cutlery, I jumped at the chance knowing the children would love them.

arthur-price-despicable-me-crockery

The ‘sea of minions‘ children’s set contains a china bowl, plate and mug.

As soon as I opened the box I was impressed with the quality.  These are a pretty big jump up from the plastic plates we’ve been using up till now to get our minion fix!

The designs on the bowl, plate and mug are vibrant and colourful and perfect for any Despicable me fans out there.  All the items are microwave and dishwasher safe too which makes life easier for us parents.

Nerys couldn’t wait to test out the set and kept looking round the kitchen to see what she could ask for that involved using the different items!

arthur-price-crockery-set-despicable-me

The bowl is perfect for cereal in the mornings, and the mug is the perfect size for little hands.

I was a bit concerned at first about giving a bone china mug to my three year old, but actually it feels nice and sturdy and she absolutely loves drinking her apple juice from it!

After checking out the crockery we moved on to the children’s cutlery set.

arthur-price-despicable-me-cutlery-set

The set contains a knife and fork and a big and little spoon.

The cutlery is a lovely size for little hands, and is chunky with a good weight to it so it feels really nice to eat with.

Each item has a picture of a minion on it and a little catchphrase too, which really adds to the fun factor of the set.

arthur-price-cutlery-set-despicable-me

I really love the idea of the children having their own set of cutlery to use, that’s a step up from the more babyish bits and pieces we still have in the kitchen drawer.

Being from Arthur Price I get the feeling that these bits will stand the test of time and will hopefully end up in either Rhys or Nerys’ kitchen when they’re older, in the same way that we have the cutlery Steve used as a child in our kitchen now.

Arthur Price have been around since 1902 and have supplied Royal families and Heads of State, so you can trust that they are all about quality!  The cutlery set is made of the finest stainless steel and even comes with a 15 year guarantee, that’s how confident they are in the longevity of their products.

The only issue I can see us having is that the children might fight over who gets to use these Despicable Me things at meal times.  I may well end up having to buy a second set to keep the peace!

If you have a little Minions fan in your life then either of these sets would make a lovely gift for them.

You can buy them directly from www.arthurprice.com or you can get them Amazon via the links below.

Sensse facial contour definer – review and competition

If you were to spend some time looking through photos of me, you might notice something.

There aren’t that many of me in profile.

If a picture is being taken of me I try to look straight at the camera if I can, because I don’t really like the way I look in profile.  I don’t quite have a double chin, but I do have a a bit of jowly look going on.  There is just very little definition along my jawline and it’s something I’m quite conscious of.

So when I was asked if I wanted to try out something that might help, I thought it had to be worth a try.

And so I was sent a Sensse facial contour definer and toning derma roller.

Sensse facial contour definer - review

The roller arrived really quickly and was well packaged which is always a plus.

When I opened the parcel I found the derma roller presented in a simple yet smart box, with information printed on the back about the benefits of using the product.  The Sensse facial contour definer is described as being a ‘mini face workout’, and claims to give a tightening effect to the skin on your face and to add definition along the jawline.

sensse-facial-massager-review

I was pleasantly surprised when I took the roller out of its box, to find that it has a lovely weight to it.

It’s a pretty rose gold, and looks and feels like a quality product.

Although, I still feel a bit funny about leaving it out on my bedside table because it does look a little like something else that you might prefer to keep tucked away!

sensse-facial-contour-massager-review

The thing is, it might look a little, interesting, but it is actually a really great design.

It’s ergonomic and fits really nicely in my hand.  And the two massage rollers are positioned at the perfect angle to fit any face shape.

So, what does it do?

Well you roll it upwards, along your jawline, from your chin to the bottom of your ear on one side, then the other side.  And repeat this a few times, to get a tightening effect and to get some definition along your jawline.

I found the instructions a little bit unclear, so did this about 5 times on each side of my face in the morning after cleansing and moisturising, and again at night, before bed.

The roller can also be used on the rest of the face to give a really nice massage effect; relaxing facial muscles, reducing puffiness and improving blood circulation.  I’ve been using it on my cheeks as well as along my jawline and it does feel really nice.

I think it has helped improve the condition of my skin a little bit, and after using it for about two weeks I think there is actually a difference along my jawline.  I’ve always been quite chubby-cheeked and as I’ve reached my mid thirties I’ve definitely hit jowl territory.  So I’m really happy to see that this little roller has made a bit of a difference, and I’ll definitely keep on using it and see if keeps on tightening things up!

sensse-facial-contour-massager-results

I will add that I have also started doing a workout dvd 3 times a week over the last couple of weeks, so that may also be a factor in this slight tightening along my jawline.  But I really do think the Sensse definer has played a big part in the improvement.

I have honestly been pleasantly surprised by the Sensse facial contour definer.

It looks really pretty thanks to the rose gold colour, and the weight to it makes it feel lovely to use.  It glides really smoothly over my skin, and I like to think that it is helping my face cream to be absorbed properly.  I also quite like the ritual of using it twice a day.  I don’t often take that much time to pamper myself, but this is a really quick and easy way to feel like I’m taking a bit of time to look after myself and my skin.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what results it gives me after another month or two of use.

Competition

If you fancy giving the Sensse facial contour definer a try then you should enter my competition to win one!

There are various ways you can enter, so take your pick or do them all to increase your chances of winning – good luck!

Cocktails at the Sky Bar, Grape and Olive, Swansea

I had a real treat last Thursday – a night out at the launch of the brand new Sky Bar at the Grape and Olive here in Swansea.

I was invited along to celebrate the launch with a group of other bloggers and local businesses, and couldn’t wait to get there and see what they had to offer.

cocktails-sky-bar-grape-olive-swansea

The last time I was at the Grape and Olive was for their Christmas event, which was a really lovely evening.  The food we sampled that night was absolutely delicious so I had really quite high expectations for the cocktails and food we would be tasting at the Sky Bar, and honestly I was not disappointed!

The whole evening started well for me, with a walk along the Swansea Bay seafront to the meridian tower.  It was a gorgeous warm evening and it was amazing to experience a visit to the top of the tower in such good weather.

sky-bar-grape-and-olive-meridian-tower-swansea

The Sky Bar is right at the very top of the tower and the views from up there are stunning.  That in itself makes it a great place to visit, before you even get started tasting the food and drink they have to offer!

When I arrived I was greeted once again with a very warm welcome from Ffion, who quickly handed me a glass of fizz and introduced me to the rest of the group.  There were several bloggers there that I had met at the Christmas event which was lovely because I do still get quite nervous about the idea of not knowing anyone at these kinds of things.

Then when I went to sit down I realised that sitting opposite me was the gorgeous Georgia from It’s Georgia Eloise, who I met last summer when we both photographed the ‘We are here‘ event for the centenary of the battle of the Somme.  It was such a nice surprise to see her, and to have a good catch up chat!

Whilst we chatted and drank our fizz I had a little look over the new Sky Bar menu to see what was on offer.

cocktail-menu-sky-bar-swansea-grape-olive

The menu looks really good, there’s a nice selection of drinks available without it being overwhelming.  And I really like the fact that they offer mocktails for anyone who might be driving but still fancy something a bit more interesting than a lemonade!

Once everyone had arrived we were invited over to the bar area for a little demonstration.

A beautiful selection of cocktails was lined up on the bar when we got over there, and then we were shown how a few of them were made.

sky-bar-cocktails-grape-and-olive-swansea

It was fascinating watching the attention to detail that goes into making these cocktails, it really is quite a craft!

Every step is geared towards getting the most of all the flavours that go into the drinks, from muddling mint leaves and sugar syrup to burning orange peel to release the oil to get more flavour from it.

mixing-cocktails-sky-bar-swansea-grape-olive

The impression I got is that a lot of care goes into each drink that is made here, so you really do get a fantastic experience on a night out.

I had a taste of a few of the drinks and they were all delicious, and worryingly easy to drink!

sky-bar-mai-tai-grape-olive-swansea

They all looked so beautiful too, you almost don’t want to ruin it by drinking them.

Almost!

bramble-cocktail-swansea-sky-bar-grape-and-olive

After sampling a few different drinks I decided to have an espresso martini, and I was delighted with that decision!

I’m a big coffee drinker so this cocktail was right up my street.

espresso-martini-cocktail-swansea-grape-olive-sky-barMade with a freshly brewed espresso and cazcabel coffee tequila, it’s a simple cocktail but it’s absolutely delicious.

I had to make a real effort to take my time and sip it because it would’ve been far to easy for it to just disappear in seconds!

Luckily we were brought a selection of nibbles to try which helped me pace myself with the drink.  As I expected, everything I tasted was mouthwateringly good.  I would honestly go back to the Grape and Olive just for the puddings, as the little chocolate brownies we tried were absolutely perfect.

By the end of the evening I was full of delicious food and cocktails, and had a big smile on my face from a lovely few hours spent in good company.

And the caffeine from the espresso martini powered me along on my walk back home!

If you’re in Swansea, and looking for somewhere a little different to go for drinks, I would highly recommend the Sky Bar at the Grape and Olive.  The views over Swansea Bay and the marina are amazing, the staff know their stuff, the drinks are amazing and the food is just delicious if you want something to accompany your cocktails.

What more could you want?!

Thank you to Ffion and the team for putting on another wonderful event, and for inviting me along!

messy-me-apron-review

Messy me oilcloth apron – review

We do our fair share of messy activities in our house.

Nerys in particular likes to bake with me, especially fairy cakes and chocolatey things like brownies.  And both Nerys and Rhys like arts and crafts activities, especially if they involve paint and glue!

I’m much more laid back about mess now that I have 2 children, but do still like to try and protect their clothes from paint and cake mix and the like.

So I was really happy when the lovely people from Messy Me asked if I would like to review one of their oilcloth aprons.

Messy Me review

The aprons come in either a star print, in 4 different colours, or a really pretty vintage floral design.

I asked Nerys which one she would like and, unsurprisingly, she chose the star print in dusty pink.  All the colours are gorgeous though, and I was actually quite pleased that Nerys knew which one she wanted because I think it would’ve taken me a while to pick one!

The apron we chose arrived quickly in the post, neatly wrapped up in tissue paper and sealed with a Messy Me sticker.  So I knew straight away what the parcel was, and could hand it over to a very excited little girl to open up!

Straight away I was impressed with the quality of the apron.

I love the fact that it’s made from oilcloth as it feels really durable and like it can stand up to a fair bit of wear and tear.  There was a handy little care guide included with it, which I thought was a nice touch and quickly answered my question about whether I could machine wash the apron or not (yes, you can occasionally).

After letting me have a good look and feel of her new apron, Nerys was keen to try it on and test it out!

messy-me-apron-review

The apron is 46cm long and 33cm wide, and is designed for children aged 3-5.  I would say this sizing is spot on, as Nerys is 3 but is tall for her age, and it fits her just right.

She had a fab time testing it out while she did some painting.  Now, normally she paints with child-friendly, easily washable paints.  But on this occasion she was using a tester pot of the kind of paint you would use to paint a wall.  Long story, but basically Rhys had to make a model of a house for school and we bought some wall paint for him to use for that, and Nerys wanted a pot of her own.  Some battles aren’t worth fighting, so I let her pick a pot of purple paint.

All of which means we really did get to test out the apron, and it did a fab job of keeping that purple paint off her clothes!

I was also really easily able to wipe the paint off the apron with a sponge and a bit of soapy water.  All in all, I was very impressed.

Nerys is very happy with her Messy Me apron, and seemed to be nice and comfy in it.  The neck strap is a really good length for her, and the waist ties are just right for keeping it on securely.

And the dusty pink fabric is just so pretty!

If you’re in need of an apron for your child then I would highly recommend one of these from Messy Me.  And if your children are younger then you should definitely go and check out the Messy Me website and see their fab range of bibs, splashmats and high chair covers.

Any one of those things would’ve been amazing to have while we were in the baby-led weaning zone a few years ago!

Bluestone national park resort – things to know before you go

At the start of May we went to Bluestone national park resort for a four night stay with the children and my in-laws.

We had a wonderful time, it was just the break we all needed, and you can read all about it in my review.

I’m going to assume though that you’re reading this because you’re thinking about booking a holiday to Bluestone.  Or you’ve already booked a trip and you’re wondering what to expect.  Either way, hopefully this post will help you as it’s full of things to know before you go!

Bluestone-things-know-before-go

The accommodation

Bluestone is set up to feel like a home from home, so the accommodation is predominantly lodges, with a few cottages thrown in for good measure.

What lodge you get depends on how many people there are in your party, and what is available on the day you arrive.  We were a party of six and were assigned a Gateholm lodge for our stay.

Bluestone-gateholm-lodge

The Gateholm lodge has a double bedroom and 2 twin rooms, and the other lodges that sleep 6 have the same set up.  The biggest lodge available is the Dinas Bunkhouse lodge which sleeps 14 but, as the name suggests, it has bunkbeds in all the rooms.  This could be perfect for a big group of friends looking to go away for a holiday together though.

All the lodges come with pretty much everything you’ll need for your stay.  Here’s a quick break down of what you get:

  • A cot, highchair and stairgates.  These come as standard in every lodge, and if you need more you can request them before you arrive
  • TV with freeview and a dvd player in the living room area
  • A dishwasher
  • A fridge-freezer
  • Bed linen, although you’ll need to bring sheets etc for the cot if you’ll be using it
  • Towels for use in the lodge
  • Standard wifi.  This is generally good enough for your standard web browsing, checking Facebook and so on.  If you want to be able to stream music or watch netflix then you’ll need to buy premium wifi, which you can do under the ‘manage my booking’ part of the Bluestone website.  They recommend you do this in advance as there are only a limited number of wifi codes available.
  • A welcome packet with things like a mini bottle of washing up liquid and 2 dishwasher tablets.
  • A cafetiere, cutlery, plates, dishes, pots, pans and utensils.

We chose to cook and eat all our meals in the lodge during our holiday and found the facilities were generally good.

One thing to note though is that, in the Gateholm lodge at least, the fridge-freezer was an under-the-counter one, so not all that big.  The freezer part was basically like an ice box, so we couldn’t fit much in it at all.

We took a fair bit of food with us, mainly because I was under the impression that the choice of things to buy at Newton Stores in the village was quite limited.  What we found when we had a wander round though was a really good selection of food; tinned, fresh and frozen.

On a side note, there was also a good selection of local ales which my husband very much enjoyed.

It’s worth popping into Newton Stores for a look around, even if you don’t actually need to buy any food.  Along with the local ale there is also a lovely selection of local food that would be fab to take home with you, or to buy as a present for someone.

If you are planning on cooking for yourself at your lodge then here are a few things you might want to bring with you:

  • Tea towels
  • Salt and pepper
  • Baking trays.  It might just have been our lodge, but there were no baking trays when we went.
  • Rolling pin and measuring jug/scales.  We made pizza one day and found that we had to improvise a bit as these things weren’t available.
  • Extra dishwasher tablets
  • Cleaning wipes/spray and kitchen roll

Cooking aside, here are a few other things you might want to pack:

  • Travel wash, if you think you might need to wash some clothes while you’re there.  There are no washing machines available, although Bluestone do offer a laundry service that gets your clothes back to you in 24 hours.
  • An iron
  • Hairdryer
  • Extra towels for swimming at the blue lagoon
  • A torch, if you think you might go for a wander after dark

Getting around

Bluestone is a car-free zone.  So you can drive your car up to your lodge when you arrive, to unpack all your things.  Then you have to drive it back to the car park and leave it there for the rest of your stay.  On the day you leave you can take the car back to your lodge to load everything up again.

During your stay you then have a few options for getting around the site.

  • You can hire a golf buggy
  • You can hop on the Bluestone bus
  • You can hire bikes
  • You can walk

Bluestone buggies

We found that we were able to just walk everywhere we wanted to go around Bluestone on our holiday.  Our lodge was in a pretty central location, between the village and the blue lagoon pool, so we never really had to walk that far to get anywhere.

We did all agree though that in difference circumstances we could see why you might want to hire a buggy.  If we hadn’t been so lucky with the weather we might have considered it, as walking for about 15 minutes in pouring rain to get to the pool probably wouldn’t have been that much fun.  Also if the children were younger or if the lodge was on the other side of the resort from the pool we might have opted for a buggy.

Keeping busy

We were at Bluestone for 4 nights, and by the end of our stay we felt that we had been busy the whole time but still hadn’t seen everything and been everywhere on site.  There is so much available to do and see, I really think you could keep going back and never be bored.

Here’s what’s included in the price of the holiday:

  • Entrance to the Blue Lagoon water park
  • Entrance to the adventure centre
  • Entrance to the circus zone at the adventure centre
  • Outdoor play area
  • Live entertainment (quizzes, live music and the like)
  • Nature trails to explore

Bluestone-village-playpark

If you want more organised activities for your children there are all sorts of clubs and sessions you can sign them up for.

There are creche sessions for little ones, along with messy play and various ‘mini rangers’ sessions.  For older children there are Junior rangers sessions, rock climbing and tree climbing, amongst other things.

With so many different activities on offer, and such a beautiful site to explore, we didn’t feel the need to venture outside of Bluestone during our holiday.

If you’ve travelled quite a way to get to Bluestone though, you might want to get out and see some of the local area while you’re there.

Here are some places you might want to visit:

  • Oakwood theme park
  • Folly farm
  • Tenby dinosaur park
  • Castell Henllys – iron age village
  • Various castles
  • Cwm deri vineyard
  • Various habours, marinas and quays, including the ever-popular Tenby harbour
  • The stunning Pembrokeshire beaches (far too many to mention here!)

Food and drink

Holidays to Bluestone are self-catered, so all the lodges come with pretty much everything you could need to cook for yourself during your stay.

What a lot of people choose to do is pop into the big Tesco in Haverfordwest on their way to Bluestone and stock up on the food and drink they’ll need for their stay.

I wouldn’t worry too much about making sure you have every last thing you think you’ll need because there is a little supermarket on the site that is surprisingly well stocked.  When we visited Newton Stores I was really impressed with the range of products available, and thought that the prices were pretty reasonable too.  They were higher than you would pay at Tesco, but things really weren’t marked up like I thought they might be.

Bluestone-ty-coffi

If you don’t fancy cooking while you’re on holiday then there are quite a few other dining options available:

  • Oaktree restaurant – for pizza and pasta
  • Farmhouse bar and grill – for meat-lovers, it’s mainly burgers and grills
  • Camp Smokey – bbq style food and the chance to toast your own marshmallows
  • Wildwood cafe – for refuelling at the adventure centre, good choice of simple food for families
  • The Knights Tafarn – for pub grub
  • The blue lagoon cafe and the fish shack – for snacks and light meals after a good swim at the blue lagoon
  • Ty Coffi – for coffee, snacks, ice creams and milkshakes
  • The Chippy – for, well, chips.  And fish.  To take away and eat in the village or back at your lodge.

A few extra things to know

  • The atmosphere at Bluestone is very relaxed.  There’s no dress code anywhere, it’s all about switching off and having fun.  If anything you want to bring clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit muddy as you go exploring.  And keep an eye out for the various signs around the resort, there were several that made us smile when we found them!

  • You can’t get into your lodge until  4.30 but you can check in at the main gate any time after 11.00.  The arrivals lodge can get really busy at check-in time, so my advice would be to get there not long after 11.  That way you can get all checked in, park your car in the main carpark then set off on foot to explore a bit.  You could wander over to the blue lagoon for a swim and then have lunch in the fish shack or the blue lagoon cafe.  After that you could take the children to the adventure centre, or head off to the village for a play in the park and a coffee in Ty Coffi.  Before you know it 4.30 will roll around and you can move your car from the car park to your lodge to get settled in.

  • The same advice applies for your check out day too.  You have to be out of your lodge by 10.00, but are free to use everything on site until 3.00.  So what we did was pack up the car and clear out of our lodge in the morning, then we drove round to the blue lagoon for one last splash about before heading home.  It was such a lovely way to end the holiday.

  • Pack comfy shoes.  Even if you decide to hire a golf buggy to take you around, it’s still worth venturing out on foot some of the time.  There is so much to see around the resort, from the nature trails through the woods to the peaceful lake where you can wander and meet the ducks (we were lucky and saw the ducklings too, so sweet!).  What we particularly liked was the fact that there was more than one way of getting to places, so you can have a bit of an adventure, exploring different pathways, even when you’re heading to the blue lagoon for the third morning in a row!

We had a truly wonderful time on our holiday to Bluestone, and would love to go back and see/do all the things we didn’t manage to fit in.  If you’re lucky enough to be heading there for a little holiday then I really hope this post helps you get the most out of it.

Disclosure – We were given a four night stay at Bluestone for the purpose of this review, but all words and opinions are my own.
