I was chatting with a friend a while ago and we ended up talking about how we felt when we turned 30. She told me she had the almost stereotypical response to it. Not quite Joey from Friends panic levels about it (Why God, why?!?!), but she wasn’t very happy about it.
I, on the other hand, was quite happy to turn 30. It just didn’t feel like a big deal. Maybe because I felt happy with where my life was at that stage. I mean, of course there were pieces of the life puzzle that weren’t quite in place yet (ha, there are still pieces missing now), but the main elements were there. I was happily married, with a much longed for baby.
And now, 3 years on, I have a wonderful baby girl as well and I feel like I’m slowly getting my act together in other parts of my life. So I feel happy to be where I am in my life at this age!
I have also learnt over the years that there are some things in this life that you just cannot prevent or change. You can’t stop the rain from falling. You can’t change another person if they don’t want to change. And you can’t stop time from passing.
Simple fact is, you will get older. You can’t change that, so why not embrace it. In fact, be thankful for it.
So on Thursday I will celebrate another year lived. Most likely there will be cake, and I’ll eat the lot. No regrets here!

Happy belated birthday Madeline 🙂 It’s great to be comfortable with where you are in life & keep a young mindset! Love the quote, it’s so true – it is a privilege to grow older & we should appreciate that. Thanks so much for linking up with #candidcuddles x
Thanks Becky! It’s a great quote isn’t it! x
Happy Birthday for Thursday! This is a great quote and really does put things into perspective xx
Thanks Lisa! x
A very happy birthday to you, Madeline! With age comes wisdom, and I’m more than happy to grow older (and smarter) than the alternative! I love your positive attitude, and I can completely relate to feeling like you’re still in your 20’s. I’m 31, and I also feel and act like I’m younger! Age is just a number, right? 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up with #candidcuddles! xx
Oh yes, age is most definitely just a number! x
I remember first reading this quote a few months ago, and man it hit me square in the face – tears began pouring down my face. It is so true on so many levels. We are so blessed to be where we are in our lives that complaining and worrying should not and will not make our lives that much more interesting or appealing.
Growing older is such a privilege. I can’t wait to grow older with my husband, watch my kids grow up and have kids of their own, I just love the act of experience in life. It is amazing!
It’s such a privilege isn’t it, I’m really not complaining about getting older! x
