I’ve read a couple of great posts recently with people writing down the good things that they have in their lives, both big and small. And it really is a great practice, taking time to stop and really appreciate all the things that we have that make life wonderful and that bring us joy.
So I wanted to do the same, and take a minute to think about a few things that have made me happy recently:

1) Spending time with my husband, making this Angry Birds red bird cake for Rhys’ 5th birthday party. And then seeing the look on Rhys’ face when he saw it for the first time. It was worth every second of the last minute, late night trip to Tesco for coloured icing after trying and failing to colour a block of white icing red!
2) Finally giving in and starting to watch Game of Thrones.
And then binge watching the first 2 seasons in about a week. I’m having great fun playing name-that-actor! Took me a while to work out that some of the faces I recognised were actually Paddy from Soldier Soldier, Stuart from Queer as Folk, and Dennis Pennis, but I got there in the end!
3) Spending time at the beach with my family.
After a long spell over the winter of not really venturing to the beach much, we’ve had a real run of trips there recently. The kids love running across the sand, jumping in the waves, digging holes, writing with sticks in the sand and exploring the dunes and rock pools.
And I love watching them!
4) Pretty flowers and thoughtful friends.
We had a very small birthday party for Rhys this year; a couple of his good friends from school came to our house for games and cake, and it was just right. What made it particularly nice for me was the fact that it gave us Mums a chance to enjoy a cuppa and a chat away from the school gates!
And I was really touched to be brought a gorgeous little vase of tulips by one of the girls, so thoughtful, and they really made me smile every time I looked at them.

Such a great happy list! That’s an impressive cake – wow. I love GOT too, it hooks you in. The tulips have been really beautiful this year (I live in Holland) #thelist
Thank you, we were pretty pleased with how that cake turned out! Oh, I bet it’s really beautiful in Holland with all the tulips! x
Lovely happy list and I am with you on seeing your parents. We hardly see ours as we live in different countries but this weekend I will see them and I can’t wait!! Also impressive cake 🙂 #thelist
Oh that’s so funny that we’re both seeing our parents this weekend! Hope you have a lovely time with them. x
I love your list and I love that angry bird cake too! My little Sister would love a cake like that for her upcoming birthday x
My main tip for making a cake like that is to buy the ready-coloured icing, trying to make white icing turn red is really hard apparently! x
I love your Angry Birds cake, it’s awesome! My children have just discovered Angry Birds 🙂 #TheList
Thank you, we were so pleased with it! My son’s been pretty obsessed with Angry birds for over a year now, and I can’t see it going away any time soon! x
Lovely list! That cake looks amazing – well done! My OH watches Game of Thrones but I don’t get it! #thelist
Thank you! I did try watching Game of Thrones when it was first shown, and didn’t get on with it, but I’m really glad I gave it another go, I’m hooked! x
