Benefits of journaling for children

The benefits of journaling for children

Journaling is much like keeping a diary, and it provides many benefits.

It encourages personal growth and is often enjoyable, while also having educational advantages. I have teamed up with an independent school in Surrey to explore the benefits of journaling in further detail.

Helps children process their feelings

One of the key benefits of journaling is that it allows a child to write down their thoughts and
feelings, which makes them easier to process.

When getting everything out of their head and onto a piece of paper, it’s so much easier to reflect and work through big emotions and come up with solutions on how they can be dealt with.

This is great for their mental health as it can reduce stress and anxiety, amongst other negative emotions.

Enhances writing skills

Journaling is also great for help children academically because it enhances their writing skills.

Throughout their school years, your child will have to write a lot of essays and their spelling and
grammar will be assessed regularly.

Journaling can help them learn new vocabulary and explore different sentence structures. When working on a skill practise makes perfect, and writing is no different.

Promotes ambition

Your child can write down their hopes and dreams in their journal, which will help them to be more
ambitious and will allow them to look back on how far they’ve come since they first started writing.

This is great for their confidence and will give them a sense of fulfilment.

Enables self-expression

Sometimes children struggle to know how to express themselves.

They can do this through journaling, which might even allow them to become better communicators.

Creative outlets like art, music, or writing are always great for self-expression and reflection.

As you can see, journaling is great for supporting your child’s growth, on both an academic and
personal manner.

With that said, there’s no time like the present to encourage them to start, so grab a pen and a notepad and get stuck in!
