We had a bit of a clear up at the weekend. In preparation for a new bed arriving this week, we dismantled our old one. Which meant I had to clear out all the stuff that had been stashed underneath it.
One of the boxes that was under there was packed to the brim with photos. And not just any photos. These are the wallet-sized ones you used to get when you had your film developed using Tripleprint. Does anyone else remember them?!
I could have so happily tipped the whole box out and spent the day lost in memories. Just looking at a few of them I was instantly taken back to sun-drenched days in the south of France, recalling the various voices and accents of the new friends we made on holiday there.
And that’s what I love so much about photography. It captures a moment in time that might otherwise be forgotten. The faces of those fleeting holiday friendships would otherwise all fade over time. But in a photo they are held forever.
I think this quote by Dorothea Lange says it beautifully.
Life isn’t meant to stand still.
By it’s very nature it is constantly moving, evolving.
But a photo lets us change that. It gives us a means by which we can hold life still for a while. Freeze a moment so that we can go back to it.
Which is an amazing gift in my opinion.

Love this quote. It captures exactly how I feel about photographs. I am only an amateur who has arrived at this love of print very late but I have fallen in love with it. It gives me a better perspective on my life by capturing those ordinary but very special moments #candidquotes
It’s a great quote isn’t it. And I agree, I love how photography changes the way you look at those everyday moments. x
What a wonderful quote! Photographs are such an important part in life. They capture memories that we cherish so much, and they help us to feel comfort that we can always have a tiny memoir of a favorite time. Beautiful graphic, too! Thanks so much for linking up with #candidcuddles!
Thanks Katie, this is one of my favourite photos of my husband and our daughter! x
Well said Madeline & what a fantastic quote! It really resonates with me. I love that you found all those wonderful memories stashed under the bed. It made for a lovely break from organizing too 😉 Thanks so much for linking up with #candidcuddles x
Haha, doesn’t take much to distract me from cleaning/organising! And I’m pleased you liked the quote! x
This sums up why I do photography, in one quote. I love capturing moments on film because they pass so quickly. Great quote and post. #candidcuddles.
It’s a fab quote isn’t it! x
