5 lovely quotes about home

As soon as I walk through my front door I’m greeted by 2 little signs.  One reads ‘home sweet home’ and the other ‘there’s no place like home’.

They both just absolutely sum up how I feel about coming home.

There are quite a few other quotes that I really love about home and how it makes us feel, and here are 5 of my favourites:

5 lovely quotes about home

“A home without books is a body without soul.” – Cicero

If you’ve read Marie Kondo’s book, or seen her programme on Netflix, then you’ll know that she is quite big on letting things go from our homes that don’t spark joy or serve a useful purpose.  One area that she recommends that we all declutter is our book collections, and a lot of people find this idea almost distressing.
I have to admit that I find it really hard to let go of books.  My parents’ house is absolutely full of them, and there is a real comfort to me to seeing shelves full of books in my home.

“Love begins by taking care of the closest ones – the ones at home” – Mother Teresa
This is such a simple message but so powerful.  If we want to spread love through the world then we need to start at home.  We need to be kind and love ourselves and our families so that love can then grow and extend out into the world.

“Home is the nicest word there is” – Laura Ingalls Wilder

Is there a nicer, more comforting word than ‘home’?  I’m not sure if there is.The thing I love most about the word is that it doesn’t just have to refer to our houses.  For me it is more than that.  It’s a feeling too.  My husband is home to me, just as much as our house is.

“Coming home is one of the most beautiful things” – Andre Rieu

At the end of a long day at work.  After a trip away.  Or as an adult visiting your parents in your childhood home.

It’s always such a lovely feeling to walk through the door and know you’re home.

“There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort” – Jane Austen

I think we all have our little spots in our homes that we like to retreat to don’t we.  It might be a cosy armchair next to the fireplace or a sofa in your upvc conservatory looking out into your garden.

These little havens are the ultimate in comfort, and make staying home the perfect way to retreat from the world and be completely ourselves.

There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort

I just absolutely love all of these quotes, that all sort of build on the classic idea that home is where the heart is.

I’ve felt a bit torn over the years between my home here in Swansea and my parents’ house in Kent that I still refer to as home when I talk about visiting them.  But I’ve realised that I’m actually just incredibly lucky to have different places to call home.  To have more than one safe haven that I can go to for absolute comfort and reassurance and safety.
