You are good enough

There are lots of reasons why we might not want to be in photos.  And right at the top of the list is normally the fact that there’s something about the way we look that we’re not that keen on.

I know there are times that I look at photos of myself and focus on the fact that I’m heavier than I’d like to be, or that my greys are peeking through.  And I know sometimes I hesitate to smile widely in photos because my front teeth cross.

But I push through that.

I remind myself that my children don’t care about any of those things.  When they’re older and they look back at a photo of me laughing with them, they won’t see my teeth, or my hair, or the extra pounds I’m carrying.

They’ll just see me.  Having fun with them.  Loving them.

I may not be picture perfect but I’m good enough.

So this is my message to anyone out there who doesn’t feel attractive enough, or thin enough, or anything enough to be in photos.

-You are good enough to be in a family portrait.

You ARE good enough.

You are more than good enough.

And your children need you to know that all they’ll see in photos of you in the future, is you.

The wonderful, perfectly imperfect person that they love.

It is a really great quote isn’t it, and a good reminder to all of us! x

Beautifully said. I love the idea behind your new #showyouwerethere Instagram tag and really want to get involved. I have so few pictures of me with the children it’s quite scary. My husband is away 10-12 weeks at a time though so when he’s away the only way to be in pictures is to take selfies and I hate doing that, and when he’s home it tends to be me who always takes the pictures as he’s just not as snap happy as I am, so again I don’t feature. On the rare occasions I do feature in them though I pick them apart because I hate how I look. I need to stop doing that!

You do need to stop doing that! And you should try taking photos using the timer on your camera or phone, it can take a bit of time to get right but it can also be a lot of fun! I would love to see you using #showyouwerethere too, when you do get in some more photos. x

It’s brilliant isn’t it. We really are all good enough to exist in photos for our children! x
